The state is experiencing significant job growth, triggered by the relocation of several large manufacturers such as BMW and its numerous support operations and suppliers in the Greenville-Spartanburg market.
We have 5 major trading areas by population: Greenville/Spartanburg, Charleston, Columbia, Myrtle Beach, & Hilton Head / Beaufort. With the largest per capita consumption, Charleston is one of the top ten destinations in the world. Charleston is a major container seaport and resort area, hosting the annual Spoleto of U.S.A. Festival and numerous festivals, meeting and conventions.
The temperate South Carolina climate continues to lure companies and professionals in the service and distribution industries who want a change from their colder more crowded surroundings in the Northeast and Midwest. While the textile industry is the state's largest employer, tourism has become a tremendous factor, as coastal resorts have become known as national golf Mecca's.
Lastly, convention and tourism groups across the state have been aggressively and successfully marketing their cities as desirable vacation and meeting spots.
